AREVA T&D expands its operations in Brazil by acquiring Waltec, a Blumenau-based company

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Division has acquired WALTEC EQUIPAMENTOS ELETRICOS LTDA activities, based in Blumenau, Brazil. The operation is of strategic importance for AREVA as it will increase its industrial footprint in Brazil, one of the major emerging T&D markets.
This acquisition will enable AREVA to provide customers with a complete offering in medium voltage and develop its business in key industrial segments (e.g. Oil & Gas, Mines & Metals, and Power Generation)
WALTEC EQUIPAMENTOS ELETRICOS LTDA is one of the leading Brazilian companies specialized in dry-type transformers and low and medium voltage switchgear. The company has maintained a double-digit annual sales growth over the last three years with its state of the art products. In 2007, the company had revenues of around BRZ Reals 80 million (€32 M) with more than 450 employees.
The acquisition is subject to the consultation of trade unions, in compliance with the applicable provisions of the law.
Philippe Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution Division, said: “This acquisition will enable AREVA to position itself as a key player on the fast-developing Brazilian T&D market while complementing our global offering. It will also strengthen our local presence and reinforce our existing sites.”
