AREVA T&D inaugurates its factory’s expansion in Switzerland

October 6, 2008
AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution division has inaugurated its new production hall for gas-insulated substations in Oberentfelden, Switzerland, on October 2nd, in the presence of the Mr. Ruedi Berger, Mayor of Oberentfelden and Mr. Lescuyer, Executive Vice President for AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution division Products Business Unit.

This 17-million-euro investment project accompanies the strong increase of the GIS world market. Thanks to this extension, the number of GIS bays to be produced will increase from an average 250 bays to more than 1000 bays per year in 2009.

The expanding GIS activity in Switzerland is supported by an important recruiting plan. In 2009, more than 700 employees will be working on the site, about 250 of them were recruited within the past two years.

Ghislain Lescuyer, Executive Vice President for the Products Business Unit of AREVA T&D, comments, “This opening follows the opening of our Aix-les-Bains factory inaugurated a few days ago. These two extensions will enable AREVA to strengthen its no. 1 position in the GIS area.
