Transmission and Distribution: AREVA has inaugurated two new factories for Gas Insulated Substations in China

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division, together with its Chinese joint venture partners, inaugurated on June 18th, two factories in Wuxi and Yangzhou (Province of Jiangsu).
The two factories will produce key components for Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) used in power transmission. The “Wuxi Alumin Casting Plant” is a joint venture between AREVA and Wuxi Alumin Casting and the “AREVA T&D (Yangzhou) High Voltage Bus-ducts Plant” is a joint venture between AREVA and Jiangsu Jinxin Electric Appliance. The products of both factories will be used in AREVA T&D’s GIS production plants in China and throughout the world.
This investment of around 30 million euros will see up to 350 new jobs created on the two sites, and follows AREVA T&D’s previous investments in GIS manufacture in China, in Suzhou and Xiamen, which assemble complete GIS up to 550kV.
Gerhard Seyrling, AREVA T&D’s Senior Vice President for Innovation and Performance Improvement said, “Together with its joint venture partners, AREVA T&D continues to expand its industrial footprint in China, through critical product components manufacturing. We are transferring the latest technologies and world-class operations to best satisfy the Chinese market needs and reinforce our market position. We are also currently constructing the AREVA T&D China Technology Center in Shanghai, which will play a key role in collaboration with our manufacturing plants by providing local research and product development”
Li Weifu, Vice Chairman of Wuxi Alumin Casting Co. Ltd. said, “As a long-time player in aluminum casting in China, our experience together with AREVA’s world class technologies and standards enables us to best support AREVA’s GIS business growth in China.”
Tang Jingen, Chairman of Jiangsu Jinxin Electric Appliance Co. Ltd. said, “The collaboration with AREVA combines the expertise and strengths of both parties. We are confident that the new factory will contribute to ensuring top quality products are supplied to meet demands in the booming market of GIS.”
Globally, with over 40 years of field-proven experience, AREVA has now installed more than 1,500 gas insulated substations comprising over 15,000 bays and has seven GIS manufacturing sites worldwide. The first AREVA GIS was installed in China in 1988, marking over 20 years of successful operation.
