Transmission and Distribution: UISOL and AREVA announce Smarter Grids alliance.
June 17, 2009
Utility Integration Solutions (UISOL), the utility industry’s business integration specialist, and AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division have formed a strategic global alliance working closely on developing and marketing Smarter Grids technology for utilities. This collaboration is based on their vision of a more flexible, responsive and resilient electric system – the ‘Smarter Grid’.
AREVA’s expertise in SCADA and its energy, distribution and market management solutions is complemented by UISOL’s knowledge of utility’s business processes, applications and interoperability standards. This alliance will enable the companies to analyze customers’ Smarter Grids needs, and then design and build tailor-made solutions.
The two companies will work together on optimizing distribution throughout the grid and developing ‘demand response1’ solutions.
“AREVA and UISOL have both pioneered key transformations for energy customers. AREVA’s thirty-year history means today we have several platforms which support Smarter Grids, and UISOL are renowned experts in large scale integrations,” commented Jean-Michel Cornille, Executive Vice President, AREVA T&D Automation, “Thanks to this alliance, utilities can now more effectively implement innovative technologies. We expect to see acceleration in the success of utility-specific Smarter Grid programs industry-wide.”
“By combining our strengths, UISOL and AREVA are taking an important step forward in meeting today’s global utility challenges,” said Ali Vojdani, CEO, Utility Integration Solutions. “In support of our common goal to help utilities achieve greater integrated energy system efficiency and reliability while reducing environmental impact, we will deliver high-quality, highly reliable solutions,” he added.
1 Demand response: This is the process of managing customer consumption of electricity in response to supply conditions.
